НАЙТИ ЕЩЕLeft by harrowing circumstances to fend for herself in the great capital of a foreign country, Lucy Snowe, the narrator and heroine of Villette, achieves by degrees an authentic independence from both outer necessity and inward grief. Charlotte Bronte’s last novel, published in 1853, has a dramatic force comparable to that of her other masterpiece, Jane Eyre, as well as a striking modernity of psychological insight, and a revolutionary understanding of human loneliness.

НАЙТИ ЕЩЕCharlotte Bronte was an English novelist and poet, the eldest of the three Bronte sisters who survived into adulthood and whose novels have become classics of English literature. The novel Villette reflects her profound loneliness following the deaths of her three siblings. Lucy Snowe, the narrator of this book, flees from an unhappy past in England to begin a new life as a teacher at a French boarding school in the great cosmopolitan capital of Villette. Soon Lucy's struggle for independence is overshadowed by both her friendship with a worldly English doctor and her feelings for an autocratic schoolmaster. Bronte's strikingly modern heroine must decide if there is any man in her society with whom she can live and still be free.
